At the beginning of 2023, the Department of Biology and & Wildlife Diseases was visited by pupils of the 6th and 7th grades of primary and secondary schools T. G. Masaryka Drásov and children from the Creative kids kindergarten.
Prof. RNDr. Oldřich Sychra, Ph.D. prepared a program for elementary school pupils in the scope of 5 lessons, the main content was work with microscopes and native and permanent specimen. Pupils had the opportunity to observe cell nuclei and vacuoles, funnels and their oxygenotaxis, various types of bacteria, but also fleas and lice. In the end, the pupils also used binocular magnifiers, under which they examined the skulls of small rodents. The imaginary cherry on the cake was the display of reptiles, including the possibility of direct contact with a coral, boa constrictor, red snake or ciliated pagecon.
For children from kindergarten Prof. RNDr. Oldřich Sychra, Ph.D. prepared a collection of stuffed animals with an interesting interpretation. Under the guidance of Assoc. prof. MVDr. Eva Bártová, Ph.D. the children also tried various surgical procedures on stuffed animals:they took blood, gave injections, bandaged various injuries, measured blood pressure, looked at X-ray images and operated.
The children left enriched, enthusiastic and with an acquired passion for zoology, biology and veterinary medicine... maybe among these children are the future graduates of VETUNI.
